Synopsis :   
"Kagaz Ke Phool” is that rare film whose commercial failure is famous. Its disappointment is known to have dispirited a genius like Guru Dutt.
In the movie "Kagaz Ke Phool’s” protagonist Suresh's (Guru Dutt) first losses his wife, and the film is largely narrated in a flashback. We are shown that film director Suresh's wife (Veena) is estranged, and has taken his beloved daughter (Baby Naaz) with her.
Suresh's brother-in-law Jimmy (Johnny Walker) is sympathetic towards him. Expectedly, the film is at its best when dealing with Dutt's relationship with Waheeda.
The gradual falling in love between the debutante and the older married director is softly muted. She hero-worships him and nurses him when he falls ill, while he initially tries to fight the strong undertow of attraction. But when Suresh's daughter pleads with Shanti to give up her father so that she can reunite her parents, Shanti quietly accedes to her wishes and even retires from acting. Suresh understands Shanti's sacrifice, but finds it difficult to withstand the pain of one more separation.
He is fated to meet Shanti once again when the still-in-love-with-him actress pleads with him to direct her comeback film. But Suresh stubbornly refuses to accept what he sees as a favour. The once-felicitated director works instead in a bit role for a pittance and faces insults in the studio. Finally, he creeps back to an empty set, sits on the director's chair, and quietly passes away.
Barely registering his death, the filmmakers clear the set in an ironic assertion of the glamour world the show must go on.

Bhagwati Prasad looks after the vast estate of his deceased brother, assisted by his wife, and brother-in-law, Markutey. Bhagwati has got into debt and has been embezzling money in order to pay his debtors. His spoiled and rude niece, Renu, who resides in the United States decides to pay them a visit. Bhagwati welcomes her and makes her feel at home, but Renu is not easily satisfied until she gets a speed boat so that she can be on her own. Alerted by her lawyer, she starts to scrutinize recent transactions and finds 15 lakh rupees missing. She asks Bhagwati to provide her with an explanation within 2 days. Then she gets into her speed boat, only to get involved in an accident, planned by Bhagwati,and disappears. Bhagwati is all set to take over the estate, when the estate's lawyer gets a Court Order freezing all the cash, bank, and assets until such time Renu is found or her body is located. The months go by, Bhagwati hires men to look for Renu, and they soon find her and lead him to her. Bhagwati finds out that she has lost her memory, and is living with a man named Raja and three children. Tara and Sitara go to Singh's house but since he is an army officer, he first doesn't allow them. But then he does. When living in his house for a while, Tara and Singh's daughter fall in love. Then Sitara and Singh's daughter's friend fall in love too. Then one day while in the house, they watch on the TV and learn that Cobra has came back. Then the two realize that Cobra has kidnapped their mother so he can force Tara and Sitara to get his brother (Panther) out of Ram Singh's jail. They then become successful in getting Panther out of the jail so Cobra wouldn't kill their mother. Cobra then gives them their mother. Ram Singh realizes that he has been fooled by the two and then the two watch him on TV getting embarrassed by the media. Then the two realize they should get revenge on Cobra and Panther. They then go to Singh's house and tell him how they were forced by Cobra to deceive Singh. Singh then forgives them. Then the two brothers go out to catch the two criminals.
